Updating Google Maps Lead Finder

Manual packages do not update automatically. Updating takes a minute and keeps your local sessions, projects and settings.

Why there are no automatic updates

Chrome only auto-updates extensions installed from the Chrome Web Store. A package loaded with “Load unpacked” is updated by replacing its files. Each release on the download page lists its version and SHA-256 checksum, and the changelog explains what changed.

Update steps

  1. Download the new ZIP and verify its checksum.
  2. Delete the contents of your existing extension folder — not the folder itself. Keeping the same folder path keeps the same extension ID, which is what ties your local data to the extension.
  3. Extract the new ZIP into that folder so manifest.json is again at the top level.
  4. Open chrome://extensions and press Reload on the ProspectChief – Google Maps Lead Finder card.
  5. Reload any open Google Maps tabs.

Your data

  • Local sessions, All businesses on this browser, local projects and panel settings are stored by Chrome against the extension ID and survive a reload.
  • Anything you saved to your account is on the server and is unaffected by extension updates.
  • If you load the new version from a different folder, Chrome treats it as a new extension with a new ID and empty local storage. Remove the old one only after you have saved what you need.

Checking the installed version

The version is shown on the extension card in chrome://extensions and in the panel's Settings menu.
